AIS Clients during the recent Acting and Writing Workshop during our special Tuesday Group series.[/caption]Last Tuesday night, eight of us met to experiment with writing and improvisation as tools for self-exploration. We reflected on ourselves, our stuttering, and our life journeys thus far. Starting with writing prompts and then theater exercises, everyone had the opportunity to express themselves in their own words and through tableau (see picture!). Below are thoughts from participants on the workshop.Michelle shared:When I first heard about this special group I was very excited but nervous! I loved the idea of exploring my stuttering in a different way. It turned out however, that through my journaling my stutter truly doesn't matter to me!I feel that everyone was pretty open about sharing their thoughts, myself included! Personally I thought that these topics gave me the opportunity to think more in depth than I normally would, and it was nice to see myself in a different light!Corey shared:The group last night was amazing, definitely one of the best in a while. All the activities were mind-blowing. The writing aspect made you think about life and who you are as a person. The acting aspect and the games were great as well. If you like writing or acting, you should give it a try. You won't be disappointed. I had a fascinating time!Chani shared:I really enjoyed the Journaling and Acting workshop at AIS! Noura made me feel welcome in the group right away and I was comfortable sharing my thoughts and interacting with the rest of the participants. The writing prompts were very thought-provoking and the discussions and activities that ensued made me really question some of my thoughts and beliefs about stuttering and identity. Even though initially I was anxious about the acting component, I liked how journaling and improvisation were seamlessly intertwined into one workshop. It definitely felt like a safe and supportive environment to try something new. Overall, the workshop exceeded my expectation and I had a great time!Stay tuned for more workshops like this. We will continue to hold special Tuesday night groups in the coming months![/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
