Follow up support is essential. The three week intensive is the beginning of a longer process of integrating all of the changes into one's life. The American Institute offers a variety of follow up services to accommodate the differing needs of our clients including phone sessions, practice/support groups, and one hour, one day and one week refresher/tune up training sessions. Also, our clients are encouraged to continue their growth through other experiences such as reading more books, attending seminars and workshops, such as those conducted at the Option Institute and/or perhaps more extensive psychotherapy when needed. Telephone Contact Institute staff are available to clients for continual support following the initial intensive program. All clients, whether long distance or local, can receive the ongoing support that they need through bimonthly phone contact. We receive calls from all over the world... from Poland, Wales, South Africa and Lebanon to California, Vermont and of course, the Bronx! Appointments are made for these phone sessions which typically last around 15 minutes. If longer sessions are needed or more frequent contact is requested, that can be arranged. Also, clients have a built in support system from the members of their treatment group. Phone numbers and email addresses are exchanged and continuing contact is encouraged. Practice/Support Groups There is a weekly practice/support group for New York tri state area clients to attend on a regular basis here at the Institute. These clients also typically maintain contact with each other during the week as well. The group is a time of focused practice to strengthen speech management skills as well as a time for discussion of issues and challenges. Anywhere from 10 to 25 people typically attend these sessions. In addition, the National Stuttering Association (NSA) has many support group chapters across the country. Our long distance clients can join an NSA group for support. "Speaking Circles" are also being organized by some of the NSA chapters. Contact the NSA for information about their chapters as well as the Speaking Circles.
Many of our clients have gone on to join Toastmasters Clubs which has chapters internationally. People from all walks of life and vastly different professions join Toastmasters to hone and strengthen their public speaking skills.
