Over the years we have received hundreds of cards and letters letting us know that we are helping people move toward their goal of more control and freedom in life. We'd like to share some with you. Those who have given us permission to use their names are given, those who we were unable to contact, are not given. A Message from Gianni Jacklone: Stuttering is a disability which can manifest itself in many ways, physically, emotionally, cognitively, even unconsciously. It is also a disability which does well to mold itself to the individual that holds this trait; hiding itself at times, seeming inescapable at others, and all the while remaining inconsistent and mysterious as it does what it does best, confound all that come into contact with it. It is no wonder most people who stutter carry with them some sense of imprisonment, and helplessness in their battle to come to terms with, understand, and take control of their speaking lives. But you do not have to remain in the dark indefinitely; there are people and places that can help. The American Institute for Stuttering is one such place. Here you will find a treatment program that is both holistic and pragmatic, that addresses the different dimensions that stuttering operates within, that holds the individual's goals and needs above all, and that teaches tools, strategies, and methodologies that can help you take control of your speech in the real world, not just while sitting in a room at home alone. You will leave the program with a deep sense of understanding in what causes stuttering, a superior education in how you can take control of it, and perhaps most importantly, a newly found sense of freedom and the will to tackle challenges and pursue opportunities that you never thought possible.
"You and the program have had more of a positive influence on my life than anyone I've ever met. You've renewed in me the belief that I can start over, that 19 years of stuttering has not wholly crushed my spirit. I really think that I now have the will to change and you've certainly given me the means, so I think the coming months will lead certainly to greater fluency and maybe even some day, total fluency. Stutterers are fortunate to have a person such as yourself working in this field." - Kevin Terrio, Student...Staten Island, New York
"You have no idea what a tremendous psychological benefit I gained from this program...now I just want to feel good and I do. I hardly think of my speech any more and I feel like a new man." - Computer Systems Analyst...Israel
"Happy anniversary to us. In 1983 I completed the program and began my life. I never take my fluency for granted. It's 20 years now and I still can't, or don't want to stop talking. Life keeps getting better and more exciting."
- Arnie Levine.... Palm Coast, Florida
"I know that I am improved and much is just knowing how to deal with the problem if and when it occurs. The improvements and attitude are largely due to you." - Civil Engineer...Ramsey, New Jersey
"Thank you for my new life! " - Student....New Orleans
"As a speech-language pathologist, I studied and researched many treatment approaches for stuttering but it wasn't until I met Catherine Montgomery and studied with her did I find one that actually effects a positive and profound change in clients." - Randy Dorfman, M.S.,CCC-SLP....Monsey, New York
"Thank you so, so, so much for changing my life!! I learned so much from you and had lots of fun!" - Tara Silber, student....Long Island, New York
"Cristin's progress to date has been outstanding. She demonstrates a true sense of ownership and control of her speaking which reinforces her confidence level. She has replaced anxiety about speaking with a feeling of enjoyment. Dread has been replaced by excitement. Without a doubt, it is the very special, supportive environment that Catherine creates which I feel results in the many successes that she must enjoy." - John Hughes, Director of Training & Development,
"Catherine's focus on the whole person makes it so powerful. Yes, participants learn physical techniques for controlling their stuttering. But equally important, they are also invited to address the psycho-social and emotional issues that exacerbate stuttering. This whole-to-part approach places each person squarely in control of his/her speech."
- Marty Brooks,Ph. D, Superintendent of Schools,
