Clinical Director

Dr. Heather Grossman joined AIS in 2011. Heather has worked with children and adults who stutter for over 20 years and was among the first select group of speech-language pathologists to receive Board Recognition as a specialist in the treatment of fluency disorder from ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.)

Heather is extremely active in the stuttering self-help community. She has been a frequent presenter of workshops for children, adults, and professionals in forums, including conventions of the National Stuttering Association and FRIENDS- the National Association of Young People who Stutter, and served as co-host of the 2008 FRIENDS conference. She has presented numerous professional papers on stuttering at both national and international conferences, including those of ASHA and IFA (International Fluency Association). She has also been an invited speaker on numerous radio and television broadcasts, including the CBS Morning Show.

Her previous clinical experience includes serving as coordinator of speech services at Hofstra University where her responsibilities included supervising graduate clinicians and providing stuttering evaluation and treatment. Heather has been a valued adjunct faculty member at several universities throughout her career, including Long Island University, Mercy College, and Queens College. She currently provides adjunct teaching at Hofstra University. In addition to her expertise in stuttering, Heather has teaching and clinical experience in areas including childhood language and learning disorders, autistic spectrum disorders, and language development.

Bridget Scully
Office Manager

Since November of 2010 Bridget has enjoyed being the voice that people first hear when reaching out to the American Institute for Stuttering. Prior to joining the AIS, she volunteered for one year with the AmeriCorps nonprofit, City Year-New York. While working with City Year, Bridget focused on the education gap in the urban public school system; she was a tutor, mentor and leader of community projects. In addition, she successfully led a Saturday community service program for Harlem high school students.

Her passion for service-learning and non-profits led her to the AIS. Bridget graduated from Douglass College at Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Arts. Bridget loves NYC–the constant flow of life, the people-watching and the limitless options of food to consume! She also has a passion to see more of the world. She has traveled to Costa Rica, Colombia and studied abroad in South Africa.
